Journaling as Spiritual Practice

There are many different ways of journaling that can benefit your spiritual practice and your spiritual growth.

1) Make a scrapbook journal.

Use photos and pictures and words cut out of magazines, as well as your own writing. This is a spiritual photo album highlighting the spiritual events of your life. Learn to carry a camera and learn to look for pictures and words to cut out of magazines. For people who are very visual, this is an excellent way to journal.

2) Make a Prayer Book journal.

Keep a journal of both your prayers and the answers to your prayers. A prayer journal is a powerful way to see how God has responded in our lives before. This can be a valuable tool for the future.

3) Make a gratitude journal.

Documenting the blessings in our lives can help any time you feel “down” spiritually. A gratitude journal serves to focus us, maintain healthy priorities and even overcome temporary feelings of depression and doubt. When we write a gratitude journal we acknowledge the things in our life that are of benefit. The Bible says “Whatever things are good, noble, true...Think on these things.”

4) Make a private spiritual journal.

It is important to have a private place to cry, to praise, to pour out your heart. Keeping a journal for your eyes only will cause you to focus and to concentrate your thinking.

Yesterday was the first day of the Development of the Unity Movement class. There are 6 students enrolled and 2 of them are taking the class for CREDIT! Marvelous! And they are both board members! Double marvelous!

Next week the students are teaching the class. They don't know that yet...thought I'd make that a surprise...kind of like a pop quiz!

Here's the question for the day...

What was the name of the Fillmore home at Unity Village?

"If we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us." I John 4:12

I love the journaling ideas. I many times ask Maya before she goes to sleep at night what she was grateful for in her day. She always has some great answers and it is an awesome feeling to end the day on. I haven't been writing them down, but maybe I will. It would be great to look back on in a couple of years.

Diana: What a great idea for Maya to have a book of her gratitude ideas when she is older. My mother kept letters I sent her...one when I was ten!...and finding them and reading them after she died was so wonderful. It will mean a lot to Maya too, I'm sure. I might add that idea to my "journaling" lists of ideas too! Thanks!
